Wing Yau may have learned the tools of her trade while studying sculpture at the Rhode Island School of Design, but her interest in handcraft dates back to a childhood spent trailing her mother at craft markets in diverse places such as Papua New Guinea and Peru, where she lived as a teen. Debuting last spring, Yau's line of sophisticated rope jewelry echoes the personal, intricate craftsmanship she was exposed to in her youth.
